Laust paused in his movements, glancing up to meet the Delibird's rather irate glare. The Mudkip had been rummaging through his wares for the a majority of the past hour, muttering unhappily under his breath and generally leaving a mess in his wake. The stall vendor was fed up with his behavior, and had been for most of Laust's visit, not that the Mudkip would have ever noticed or cared.[break][break]
"No," he replied simply before returning to his search without a second thought, pushing aside a bundle of neatly folded scarves onto the floor when he decided that there was nothing of interest there. But, just as he was about to delve further into the Delibird's merchandise, a bright red wing dropped in front of his wandering paws to act as a roadblock.[break][break]
"Look," the Delibird sighed as Laust peered up at him with an unreadable expression. "I got other customers, and you're being a pain in the behind, so hit the road, alright?"[break][break]
For a second, the two Pokemon were locked in a staring match. Despite being phrased as a question, there was no confusion as to the finality behind the Delibird's command, and Laust, realizing that he was being given an order, was given all the more incentive to rebel. The two of them were locked in a silent battle that neither wanted to back down from. But, in the end, Laust recognized that he was not about to win this showdown, and he reluctantly back away from the stand, but not before demolishing the Delibird's impeccably arranged goods with a petulant swipe of his tail. Padding away sullenly, Laust could hear the Delibird sigh heavily before greeting another customer behind him.[break][break]
"Who was that? He giving you any trouble?"[break][break]
"Oh no, it's just some kid. People say he's a little nutty, so I tend to leave him to his own devices whenever he comes around."[break][break]
"I'll believe it. I ain't never seen a Mudkip like that before, not with that fin and all."[break][break]
The last comment caused Laust's face to twist into a scowl. What was it with people and the emphasis they placed on physical appearances? People could have a myriad of scars, could have a lame leg or a broken wing, and immediately others would jump to judgement based on those arbitrary features. All his life, people had made assumptions about him based on the fact that he was born with a fin that just so happened to curl over slightly to the right. Yet, no one had ever bothered to ask him if ever really troubled him or made his life any different than it would have been with a regular fin. And, even if they had asked, his answer would always have been a firm, resolute no.[break][break]
And people think I'm dumb, Laust huffed as he dragged himself to the edge of the marketplace. There, he took a seat and shifted so that he would be able to observe all the stalls from a distance. Originally, his plan had been to peruse them one by one, but with how the Delibird had reacted, Laust figured that the other vendors would his presence in the same way. He had no intentions of going home early though, not until he either found what he was looking for or confirmed with his own two eyes that it was not present, and this was merely a change of tactics. If he located the correct stall first, he wouldn't have to waste so much energy digging through every shop, and he wouldn't need to deal with infuriating people either.

"Take a sip, I swear it's not poison" Althea was bored with the market. There was never anything good here; it was just evolution items, and dungeon items, and held items! Where were the skulls? What about the extracts of arbok venom? How about beakers, or test tubes, or calibration tools? Nothing! She let out a low grumble as she wandered past another stall, head held high as she wondered what, exactly, the use of a market without such items was. Oh, sure, it was fine for adventurers, but what about researchers? Would no one think of the poor scientists!? Her attention was snatched, after a few moments, by a slight disturbance in the otherwise friendly and calm air of the market. It was a bit unusual for a stall owner to get frustrated with a customer searching through their wares for too long, but it was even more unusual for that stall owner to then discuss the ‘oddity’ of a customer with another pokemon. Why, and people called her cruel! She would never call out someone on their unusualness! Oddities were wonderful, and just new opportunities for research! Of course, Althea had quickly learned that suggesting such things got on people’s nerves. It turned out most people didn’t want to be researched! And besides, she thought as she listened in on the conversation, oddities weren’t a big deal! She was odd! Determined to address the mudkip, who looked awfully sullen at being pushed away, the morelull moved forward until she was bouncing along as fast as she could. “Hello!” Althea greeted, struggling to keep up with the mudkip. “I, ahem, couldn’t help but notice the astounding rudeness of that shopkeeper and his friend there! Did you know that by insulting one customer, you likely alienate several more? How foolish of him! He clearly has not thought a lot about what his comments say about him.” She huffed and puffed. This mudkip was much faster than her, considering she had only one real leg and had to locomote a bit oddly. “Now, what I suggest would be- oh, could you hold up for a moment? I greatly apologize, but my leg is not exactly the fastest.” The mudkip probably wasn’t even going that fast. Althea was just very, very slow. “I would suggest to get your revenge. However, I am aware that there are likely police watching! Perhaps by purchasing from another shop you could show that rude delibird what-for? Could I ask what it is you were looking for that you were unable to find at that shop?” Laust Dunbarr - 421 - i've been waiting to see if anyone else posts but hhhh i have to snag this thread, laust is so cute MADE BY VEL OF GS + ADOXOGRPHY 2.0

There was a saying somewhere in the universe ‘everyone in the state’ and it appeared to be a good little saying for the very occasion. David had decided to go pick something to match his gloriously flashy rainbow vest but found himself walking upon the Delibird’s conversation just as it ended amicably with a sale and the remark ”Hopefully that nutty kid doesn’t come back. Last thing I need is to be associated with the likes of him, especially with an appearance like that.”
Even without knowing the whole conversation it put an odd taste in David’s mouth and he looked down the way to find a Morelull hopping her heart out as she chased after a deflated Mudkip. He looked toward the stall and the mess and wondered if all that had happened was mischief gone wrong but it didn’t excuse calling someone nutty or judging them by their appearance.
David turned sharply, his thick tail knocking over the last stack of scarves. “Oh I’m terribly sorry. I’m not so good at balancing with my bad leg and seemed to have knocked over all of your scarves. But don’t worry. I’ll see myself out.” Hiding the acid on his tongue with a sweet smile and sweeter tone before hopping away from the stand and its scattered wares.
As he approached, he noticed he easily began to catch up to the Morelull. They weren’t known for being speedy but he wasn’t exactly that fast himself. His heavy stature and bad hind leg made it hard for him to move quickly and it wasn’t uncommon for him to lull behind people when walking in a group. “I hope you don’t mind me butting my way in but I do know a better place for scarves if that’s what you were looking for. It is certainly more welcoming although it doesn't have as many things in stock.”

[googlefont="Lato:400,400i,900;Raleway:400,400i,700;"] [nospaces] [attr="class","laustbig"] [attr="class","laustnotes"] [break] althea david starchild 419 words [break][break] notes: i'm so sorry he's the worst [attr="class","laustimg"] [attr="class","lausttext"] With Laust's upbringing, he had learned several valuable lessons that he kept close to his heart, one of which was to trust no one. Maybe it was different for normal people. When others spoke to them, the sympathy they received may have been genuine and heartfelt. But, in Laust's experience, that was never the case. His fin always left people on edge, and he didn't bat an eye at the people who circumvented him because the were unsettled by his physical deformity. Sure, it was irksome when they leapt to conclusions about his quality of living, but, in the end, they continued to mind their own business, and he certainly couldn't ask for much more than that. [break][break] However, it was the other type of people, the Mother Teresa archetypes skulking about and waiting for a new pet project to sink their talons in, that he abhorred more than anything. They always approached him with a concerned expression, but the Mudkip had swiftly realized that they were never worried about him. No, the true apples of their eyes were themselves and their own reputation. Eager to save the wretched of the earth, these people often accosted him, and Laust was fed up with being the victim of someone else's overgrown ego and savior complex. [break][break] As a result, when he heard the voices of the Morelull and Stufful pipe up from behind him, Laust didn't even bother to spare them a glance. Instead, he allowed the Morelull's requests to fall on deaf ears, picking up the pace as his eyes darkened and his mouth twisted into a scowl. It was only when he stopped along the edges of the marketplace that he finally acknowledged their presence and stared at them with a petulant gaze. His eyes lingered over them for a length of time that was far from polite, and Laust made no attempts to mask his contempt. Already in a foul mood from the way the Delibird had treated him, the Mudkip had no more patience for self-absorbed do-gooders, and he fell back on his most reliable trait in order to deter their attentions in the quickest manner: rudeness. [break][break] "Look, I don't care," Laust spat, words dripping with unmasked venom. "Why are either of you interested in this anyways? What, looking to jerk around the weird kid because you're bored and there's nothing better to do? I never asked for anyone's help, and I'm certainly not looking for any from you two. Honestly, get a life and leave me alone."

"Take a sip, I swear it's not poison" Laust’s rudeness was unexpected, but Althea had always come to expect the unexpected in her line of ‘work’. Besides, she was a naturally adaptive little morelull, and thought she could roll with the punches quite well. The pokemon’s eyes slid towards the stufful, who also seemed interested in helping in some way. She bobbed her head in greeting, as she was sure was polite, before turning her attention back to the harsh tone of the mudkip. The morelull teetered and tottered as she thought. Well, this certainly hadn’t been how she had planned things to go, but that was alright! You had to shift around your expectations often in science, and so she took the same view in approaching other pokemon! Althea didn’t seem too put out by the mudkip’s words, instead bobbing slightly as she considered what to say. Her tone was cheerful when she spoke. “Well, you see, I have been told I am a ‘screwball’, so to speak.” She began, recalling her childhood without much fondness. “Those of us that have been deemed oddities by the general populace have to stick up for each other, don’t we? I understand if you don’t want the sticking-up-foredness, or feel my relating to this situation is uncalled for.” She did not seem apologetic in the least. “While I often seek to do things when I am bored, this is not such a case. Nor do I do this simply out of kindness, for I am rarely a kind morelull. Though I suppose, in some cases, the advancement of the sciences can be considered kind in itself!” For a moment she seemed lost in thought, before shaking herself slightly. “Anyway, my point is that I approached you because I did not want you to feel alone, or like no one was there to back you up, mostly because I wish others would have done the same for me! Perhaps I would have better accomplished that by yelling at the one who aggravated you? Of course, I do tend to go all out when I decide to dislike someone, and I prefer not to get arrested today!” There was no way one lone morelull could escape a situation where she attacked a stall owner in the middle of a market, after all! The morelull leaned in a bit closer to observe Laust, before glancing back towards David. “But, if you truly wish me to disappear, I can manage that, I suppose. Don’t you agree?” The end of her question was directed at the stufful, who she sincerely hoped didn’t become frustrated with the words of the mudkip. That would do them all no good! Though, it would allow her to hang back and observe an argument, which could be beneficial! MADE BY VEL OF GS + ADOXOGRPHY 2.0

He watched the Mudkip and listened to his frustration. It was understandable. He remembered feeling that frustrated a lot around that age. It was hard not to when you were different. It didn't change David’s desire to be here for the young Pokemon any more than if the Mudkip had lashed out physically, although he likely would have taken a stronger hint and suggested a few things to do before walking away but the desire would still persist.
As the Morelull spoke, however, David felt a strong kinship with them, even if they ousted themselves as not being entirely kind, David found that untrue of almost anyone but his optimistic outlook did tend to paint people in a better light.
“To be fair,” David interjected, “When I was a bit closer to your ages I didn't have much in the way of help during these matters. It would have been nice, as this wonderful Morelull has pointed out, to have someone to help stand by me in moments like this.” He scratched his chin thoughtfully, a smile still on his face. He wished he could help further but obviously there were issues emotionally that David could handle or cure. Not by stranger’s means. At least not that he thought.
When the Morelull directed the conversation toward him, David perked and blinked at her. “Oh! Well yes of course. I will leave you alone if you wish. Just know there are people out there who are willing to stand up for you. Like I said I do know a better place for scarves and I am going to be going that way for one and if you wish to join me I wouldn’t mind having someone to tag along.” He said sweetly, pushing himself up into a standing position and giving a tentative little hop of his hind leg to make sure everything was in working order.

[attr="class","laustimg"] [attr="class","lausttext"] As the Morelull and the Stufful spoke in turn, Laust fixed them with a sharp stare, trying to decipher the true intent behind their statements. Even though he sensed no deceit, he still hesitated to accept their declarations at face value. His innate distrust of people ran too deep for it to be so easily deterred, but, as Laust considered how he had just been so rudely turned away a second ago, he figured it would have been a little too hypocritical to follow suit. [break][break] “Whatever,” the Mudkip groused, kicking at the dirt underfoot. “I don’t own this plaza, so I can’t keep you from being here if you want to be. Just stay out of my way. I’m looking for more than just a scarf.” [break][break] Though the last bit of Laust’s statement might’ve sounded like little more than a thinly veiled jab, it was the truth. Laust was on the hunt for something beyond a simple accessory. He didn’t care for vanity, at least not when it was related to his own appearance. But, Laust had big plans for the future, and, when the time came, Laust intended to leave his mark on the lands he would discover. One day, he would plant his flag on the world’s tallest mountains, in its deepest ocean valleys, and he needed that flag to be durable enough to survive even the toughest conditions. Laust was searching for a fabric that wouldn’t break, and, so far, he had found nothing of the sort. But… Laust cast a sideward glance at the Stufful. [break][break] “Fine, lead the way,” Laust relented finally, getting to his feet to stand alongside the Stufful. Though he was still wary of his two unwelcome companions, he was confident enough in his own abilities to get away if it came down to it. After all, even though they all shared similar flaws, at least his didn’t impede his movement.

"Take a sip, I swear it's not poison" David had a gift for words that Althea recognized that she did not. Instead, she simply bobbed alongside him in agreement, having decided that she was going to help Laust unless he continued very blatantly stating that he wanted them nowhere near. The dual-type glanced towards the stufful after a moment, and if she had any noticeable mouth she would have smiled. Instead, the mushrooms on her head glowed slightly brighter. “Besides, aren’t three heads better than one when it comes to finding things and thwarting uncaring stall owners?” Still, if the mudkip insisted they leave, the morelull wasn’t about to be unwanted company. However, he seemed to have consented to their presence, at least for now. Althea didn’t seem deterred by Laust’s words. She also didn’t seem to interpret them as a jab. “Oh, I should hope not! Why, if you owned this market, I would have a few very choice words for you. Words like, ‘where do I purchase scales or vials?’ Did you know that they have not a single anatomical model of any pokemon in this market?” The morelull sounded absolutely despondent. How were you supposed to advance science when you didn’t have the proper tools? But this was hardly about her struggles to find things in the market; this was about whatever Laust needed and couldn’t have found! She was not generally a helpful morelull, but what if the mudkip’s quest was important? And besides, even a pokemon as solitary as her needed to interact sometimes. She liked people! It just happened that most people didn’t like her, which was a shame she thought. “Might I ask what you’re looking for? I’m not as familiar with the market as the stufful here, but I like to think I have a knack for noticing things!” Looking around the market, she realized a moment too late that she had forgotten something important! “While I understand that we may not be at ‘exchanging names’ level of acquaintanceship, I am Althea! I’m, uh- well, it’s not important.” She was fairly certain that this group of pokemon wasn’t likely to look down on her for being a scientist, but she had very quickly learned that some of her experiments weren’t something to speak about in polite company.
