She’s a clever little morelull, yes, but she doesn’t put that cleverness to use to better the lives of others by any means. Instead, she likes to experiment, and experiencing cause and effect is one of her favorite things. She’d do just about anything in the name of research, no matter how dangerous, foolhardy, or downright mean. Her morals are few and far between- don’t hurt friends, practice shrewd business, and try not to kill anyone. Althea takes a frankly startling delight in seeing the effect of her spores on others, and she’s currently trying to find a way to distill them and form them into more potent poisons. Thankfully for the rest of pokemon-kind, it’s hard to create lethal toxins when you don’t have arms. That’s not to say that she hates people. In fact, Althea can be quite personable and loves to share her interests with others. It’s a shame that her interests aren’t the sort of thing you discuss in polite company. When it comes to friends, Althea is...well, mushy. She’ll still try and perform tests on them, yes, but she’s positive to never put them in any serious danger, and enjoys spending time with them. Meeting someone who shares her interests doesn’t trigger a rivalry in her, but instead a deep appreciation of someone else willing to push the boundaries of science. Despite everything, Althea can do good. Sometimes. She’s not above researching things that would help others, as long as that research is interesting. Unfortunately, between her morbid sense of humor (‘What did the pidgey say? Nothing. He was dead.’) and her tendency to find the dangerous more exciting means it’s hard to get anyone to support her research. Her main motivation for being an outlaw is, aside from the fact that hunters and explorers probably aren’t supposed to experiment on their enemies, to steal enough money to fund her research. However, there are some situations that Althea is even uncomfortable in, some things even she wouldn’t dare to do. Thankfully, she’s very adaptive, and tends to roll with the punches; sometimes to the detriment of what few morals she holds close to her chest. Most of the time, her ability to take things as they come means she’s very rarely caught on her back foot. It takes something truly momentous to make her lose her cool. [attr="class","titeidol"]history Althea has always been a little odd. Unfortunately, oddness was always a target for bullying among children, especially when you weren’t exactly the strongest pokemon out there. For most of her life, the morelull was secluded from other children, only interacting with her parents and older sister. Compared to the flirty, easy-to-like shroomish, Althea was difficult to get along with and had a tendency to do things just to see what would happen. She rarely hurt people, but it turned out that doing things because you -could- and not because they were -right- got her in a lot of trouble. As time passed, she learned to better differentiate right and wrong and grew more empathic. However, even as she realized what was good and bad, she found herself not particularly caring. Wasn’t it more important for things to be interesting, than right or wrong? Of course, severely injuring people wasn’t good, but so what if they were paralyzed for a few moments because Althea wanted to see how powerful her ability spores were? It felt natural that, once she became eighteen and left home, Althea try and become a researcher. Quite a few groups turned her away; morality in science, they said, was important. So she fell back on her only other option- stealing to get the money she needed for equipment and reagents. Besides, being an outlaw helped her see her ability and moves in action.
