[attr="class","cbbodt"]Emmett just sort of assumes that everyone is his friend my default until proven otherwise, and he treats them accordingly. Everyone is deserving of the same level of respect, devotion, and care, and if they decide to give that back then all the better. He isn't the type to have best friends, not wanting to play favorites, but some people need his help more than others, so he tends to gravitate towards people he thinks need protection or guidance, and while this isn't always the right assessment, he takes his duties very seriously.

[attr="class","cbbodt"]When it comes to romance, like most things, Emmett is completely clueless. He's already got too much going on to think much about it, and he hasn't really grokked the idea that someone could be attracted to him in a non-friendly way. He'll either conveniently ignore or wildly misinterpret any kind of flirting or displays of affection. Emmett doesn't really know how to process romantic attraction, so any feelings he may develop will come out as mild confusion and a sense of protectiveness at best, and outright clinginess at worst. He's not sure if he as a "type", but he likes people like him, strong and dependable and for whom a lack of physical sex isn't an obstacle, sliiightly more than most people.

[attr="class","cbbodt"]It takes some serious effort to get on Emmett's bad side, and even then it's not so much bad as it is slightly disgruntled. He believes that nobody is truly beyond redemption, and no matter what you've done, no matter how heinous, he'll always make an attempt to reach out. There are no bad people, just misguided ones, and all they need is someone to help set them back on the right track. Of course, he's not above giving someone a good walloping to knock some sense back into them, but usually only in retaliation, or because of a threat. He's not the kind to hold grudges, and when presented with a conflict he'll try to resolve it as quickly as possible.

[attr="class","cbbodt"]There was a group of explorer's that helped drag Emmett out of that mineshaft and back into the land of the living. Maybe your character was one of them. Also, while not exactly a social butterfree, he's almost always busy in the guild hall or around town, so there's a decent chance Emmett and your character might already be acquainted.
