my love, i am the speed of sound
Felix carefully arranged the tattered scarf that he’d tied around his neck, furry paws going to the fluff that surrounded his waist and making sure that he was properly groomed. He knew that Darius could care less whether he was looking his best, but it was important to the buneary that he looked as good as he could. The old scarf wasn’t much - it certainly wasn’t one of the fancy ones that would have evolved him or made him stronger - but he thought the light blue color looked quite nice against the pale yellow of his thicker fur. “Let’s see. How do I look now?” He asked his reflection in the tricklestone park river. Felix made a face. “Maybe I should tie it in a different way…” He mumbled, shifting the bag over his shoulder and peering closer at the water.
His empty paw went up to the scarf again as he adjusted it. “I guess that works. Maybe I’ll get a nicer one later.” He was fairly certain that the scarf he’d stolen had only made its way in to his paws without failure because of the fact it was so old. It was likely that someone had spotted him, but hadn’t bothered to say anything because the scarf was on sale for cheap anyway. Oh well. One day he’d be a more talented thief, he swore! Then he and Darius would have a nice home and nice things and nice food! Sighing, Felix allowed himself to daydream for just a moment. He had to stay vigilant so that he didn’t miss Darius’s arrival, but there was nothing wrong with fantasizing a bit. Sure, the life of a thief wasn’t the most glamorous, and sure, Felix would have loved to have a boyfriend that had the money to spoil him, but for Darius he would live in poverty for the rest of his life.
Anyway, if anyone really had anything he wanted, someday he’d be strong enough to just beat them up and take what they had.
To make sure he hadn’t forgotten anything, the buneary glanced inside the bag he’d brought with him. Altogether, the picnic was...not very good. He had raw apples. Some roasted apples. Some apple juice. Felix sighed. It wasn’t impressive at all, but apples were cheaper than berries and he hadn’t exactly had the confidence to steal more things after he had snagged the scarf. So, he had used some of the small amount of money he’d saved to buy the food for their picnic, damn the consequences. Sure, it was smart to save up. Sure, he could have eventually bought something more useful. But Felix liked to buy frivolous things that he and Darius enjoyed together!
Sitting down on one of the benches, Felix sat the bag next to himself and wrinkled his nose as a piece of dirty paper, stained with berry juices, tumbled by in the gentle wind.
