[attr="class","groupidol"]Civilian | [attr="class","aboutmeidol"] [attr="class","titeidol"]personality To call Leonora an artist would be a gross understatement, and more than that it'd be an insult to both her passion and ability. She is an artiste. An auteur. Leonora Maar has a vision and she's going to present it to you no matter what. There is no pursuit she won't apply 100% of her energy and devotion to, and anyone who knows her even in passing will tell you she's got more than enough of both. She's almost always in motion, pacing and strutting around any space she's given and fidgeting with her hands or her tail. She doesn't feel comfortable sitting around in one place for too long, and she's always hungry for new things, new environments, new perspective. It's this hunger that, in part, fuels her artistic pursuits, that desire to replicate the things she experiences and leave people with those same new impressions. The other part is that when Leonora feels something, she feels it hard. She's not just happy, she's ecstatic. She's not just angry, she's gut-wrenchingly furious. She's not just bored, she's suffering from mind-numbing ennui. Her emotions run hot no matter the circumstance, and while she may be given to the occasional outburst, more often than not she'll try to channel that energy outward, into something creative. Mood and feeling are the core of Leonora's work, and she recognizes that. That also means, however, that when something's bothering her, her solution is usually to stay at home and paint rather than deal with the actual problem. She doesn't hate conflict, it just doesn't fit in with how she sees herself, though she's gotten into more than a few spats with potential patrons. She isn't cruel, of course. In fact, Leonora understands people better than some, and picking up on the way people feel has become almost a sixth sense for her. It's a strange type of intuition, but she trusts it completely. She'll help anyone who she thinks is feeling down, but people with a "bad vibe" are gonna have a hard time getting anywhere near her or her space. She tries to be gentle when dealing with others, but when it comes down to it she can be frighteningly blunt. Leonora isn't scared of telling people exactly what she wants and feels, and it's up to them to decide what to do with that. What she wants exactly can vary from day to day, but she knows herself better than anyone, and if she decides to skip out on a commitment because something else happened to catch her attention more, then it was probably for the best. [attr="class","titeidol"]history Nobody's really born an artist, not really, but if you were to ask Leonora, she'd tell you she sprung fully formed from the earth, ready to dazzle the world with her vision. Not in those exact words, of course, but that's the thrust of the story. In truth, it's not nearly that glamorous. She was born to a family of travelling merchants, the eldest of three, with a brother and half-sister just a few years her junior. Her childhood consisted primarily of travelling, days and nights spent on the road between towns, occasionally stopping to hawk food and foresting supplies. It wasn't something she minded especially. Her parents loved her, and the thrill of seeing new places and people more than made up for her lack of permanent home. When her mother wasn't busy running the stall, she'd take Leonora out for painting lessons, aiming to put the girl's keen brush skills to use, and she learned a lot just from painting the things she saw on their travels. As she grew, her love of art grew with her, evolving from a hobby to a passion. She began experimenting with form and technique, even branching out into other mediums when she had the opportunity. Soon, though, her mother took ill and, being that she was the businesswoman of the family, her dad needed all hands on deck to help run things in between taking care of her mom. Eventually, that second part stopped being a problem. Her father was a wreck. The loss of Belladonna Maar hurt everyone, but he took it the worst. Even after remarrying and having another child, he could barely find the energy or wherewithal to plot routes or manage inventory or do basically anything. Leonora's hours managing trade got longer and longer, and her time to practice her craft got shorter and shorter, and her grief grew and grew. Like a scab. Like a tick. She couldn't take it anymore, not without an outlet. She couldn't bear to live like this anymore, and so, when she was certain her siblings were old enough to help run things, she packed up and left in the dead of night. It was a long few days of travelling before she found herself in Elysia, so she had some time to think. It wasn't a good thing she'd just done, but it was necessary. She could live the way she wanted to, living off her art. It was the best life she could have, given the circumstances. Then she finally got there and the reality of actually being an artist finally set in. She was out of practice, no real cohesion or theme between any of her pieces, and her lack of resources meant she could only produce work sporadically. Barely any of them sold, and the ones that did went for almost nothing. She'd have to get desperate. She'd have to take commissions. It's been going pretty okay since then. She's not necessarily happy with it, but she's had money for a home and for food and she can work on things she actually cares about, so there's that. Still, it feels like there's something missing. All she needs is to find out what it is. | [attr="class","glanceidol"]Leonora Maar [attr="class","glanceidol"]N/A [attr="class","glanceidol"]she/her [attr="class","glanceidol"]Smeargle [attr="class","glanceidol"]5 [attr="class","glanceidol"]25 [attr="class","glanceidol"]Hasty [attr="class","glanceidol"]Very finicky [attr="class","glanceidol"]Moody [attr="class","glanceidol"]played by Comrade |
