Here it was, her first mission since joining the guild. The moment she officially left the safety of the town, she would have no one to rely on except herself. There were no laws, no regulations in these dungeons, and death was as prominent a possibility as any other outcome. Her paws shook with an imperceptible tremor; Quinn grit her teeth and forced them to stop. There was no time for weakness. A quick glance overhead informed her that it was about time to get started. The Whimsicott was in the area right now, but the criminal could leave at any moment. Time was of the essence. Though the guild had informed Quinn that there was a possibility of other hunters joining her on this endeavor, she had no real qualms about finishing the job on her own. She'd give them five more minutes to show up. Then, she'd find that Whimsicott and reclaim the Furret's stolen orb, alone or otherwise. "Hello, hello. Backup's here."The unenthusiastic voice was coupled with Garm's equally deadpan face as he trotted over to where the Shinx was. He already had grumbled enough back at the guild when he was suddenly tasked with tagging along a new member for her first mission. It was probably not needed, considering this place isn't exactly fatal as far as he was concerned, but he supposed that a job's a job. He was going to get paid regardless of whether or not he actually pulled his weight as long as he did what he was asked to do. He observed the Shinx in front of him, who he deemed looked independent enough to complete this quest without any help. Then again, she was supposed to apprehend a criminal and a risk for a fight was certainly there. Garm supposed that someone extra to accompany her was just a safety protocol for new members. "Pleased to meet ya and all that. Call me Garm or whatever." His maw parted to a yawn after he spoke, clearly showing how much excitement he had for today. tEgqd58O1-100 181 words will edit out the roll if someone else joins i guess 1-100

Throw yourself in with abandon I’m at the helm
After finishing his odd-job for the day--tugging a couple of tourists along in a boat on the coast--Beau had it in his mind to try out the dungeon again. He'd explored his fair share of shifting meadow landscapes in the past few years, but he hadn't gained much strength or skills from his various outings. He recognized he needed to beef up, if he wanted to some day move beyond the meadow to farther-out lands, places his father might be Hunting in at this very moment. With a ragged knapsack double-tied behind his fins and tail, Beau began to float toward the edge of the dungeon area. He never much liked the grass types lurking about, but the meadows also were closest, smallest, and had the easiest enemies--compared to somewhere like the reefs, anyway. Beau ducked behind a tree when he came across a Shinx and a yawning Electrike. He didn't recognize the Shinx all that much, but Beau knew from his obsession with the Guild that the Electrike was a Hunter he'd seen in passing once or twice. Hunters! He could use this to his advantage. Inhaling sharply to steady himself, he emerged from behind the tree and rushed to meet them. "Y-yo, I'm here to join your party. I'm a new Hunter, too." Crap, he sounded so fake. He sucked at lying and deceiving people. What made him think he could pull this off? "This is my first time out here- er, at least, officially, y'know? ...Anyway, what are we standing around here for?!"Mrptd3jZ1-100256 words ◆ 𝓈𝒾𝓁𝓋𝒶𝓁𝒾 ◆ let me know if this isn't allowed for some reason, since Beau = civilian? |

a wild deerling rears its head from where it had been grazing in the grass, ears perking as it catches sight of the party before it braces itself for attack and cries angrily. what will you do? Garm raised a brow at the newcomer. He wasn't sure why the guild would throw in another first timer with them. He figured two was enough, but at this point, the Electrike stopped caring much altogether and simply went on with it. Garm disliked working with crowds, though he supposed that this day will be done just as soon as it started and he can go home and sleep to his heart's content later. "Photosynthesis." A remark made with a serious face, one would not think that Garm was being too casual. "You... Any names?" he'd ask the Carvanha. He'd inquire about the whole situation at the guild when they get back since he was told he'd be with only one of them he'd be accompanying. At this point, it was too much of a hassle to talk much about the details that he'd simply push the task of questioning the Carvanha for later. For now, their attention was to be brought to the Deerling that suddenly appeared in their path. The noise it made got Garm's attention before it could even expose itself with its attack. "Heads up." A weak jolt of electricity was fired from the tip of his tail towards the charging Grass-type in an effort to paralyze it. He was with two others anyways, so he guessed he wasn't necessarily needed to knock it out through beating it up. >> Garm used Thunder Wave!233 words some notes

"Photosynthesis." Beau didn't know how to react to that: was the Electrike serious? Beau stared at him blank-faced as he asked about his name. His name. He knew he was no master trickster, but he recognized well enough that giving his name might not be such a good idea. Although, he was a regular among the village's citizenry, with a pedigree of two famous Hunters to boot, so maybe his new companions would piece together Beaumont's deception. Ugh, what had he gotten himself into? The Guild would definitely find out after all of this was over, and maybe they'd take offense enough to ban him from applying to be a Hunter for life. Then again, if he did splendidly, if he truly proved his worth out in the field collaborating with two Guild-sanctioned Hunters, maybe he could impress them. Maybe this was his one shot after all. Fortunately, the appearance of a wild Pokemon saved Beaumont from having to deal with the name issue--for now. He watched in awe as the Electrike used his Thunder Wave to paralyze the Deerling. Sensing the opportunity to prove himself, Beaumont rushed forward, teeth bared. "My turn!" he called out. >> Beau used Bite! |

Instinctively, she rose to her feet, eyes widening at the prospect of a thread before she registered his greeting. Pelt flushing with embarrassment, Quinn stayed standing but gave her a chest a few rapid licks and implored the fur along her spine to lie flat. "Quinn," she responded, taking a moment to size up the newcomer. His lazy drawl matched with his lackadaisical shuffle did nothing to elevate her impression of him. She was already in a sour mood – unimpressed with how the guild had treated her like a child in need of a guardian – but even worse was how they thought she was so inept as to benefit from the company of someone like Garm. He looked as if he could hardly keep himself from napping right there and then, much less actually possess the skill to guide her through a dungeon! But, Quinn's parents had always taught her to respect the experience and intuition of the guild leaders, and she was much too proud to make a big deal out of it, so she resigned herself to an unwilling partnership. That is, she did until yet another guild member appeared out of the woodwork. The Carvahna had seemed competent enough, with his sharp fangs and angular, predatory figure, but then he admitted to being wet behind the ears with half-baked stutter and Quinn couldn't help but scowl. If he had been another veteran hunter, she wouldn't have been so bothered by his presence. But, the guild had really sent another amateur on this mission when they didn't even trust her to finish it on her own. She was all too tempted to tack on her own two cents to Garm's snarky comment, but she held her tongue to preserve her dignity. Remaining silent, she waited to hear the Carvahna introduce himself before deciding if it would be a waste of breath to say her name again, but, before all that could happen, Garm had perked up suddenly. Following his lead, Quinn caught sight of the attacking Deerling at the same time Garm shot a blast of electricity at it. The Thunder Wave was spot on, and the Deerling jerked as its nerves were shocked. Noting the opponent's hesitation, Quinn readied herself to jump on the opportunity afforded to her, but the Carvahna beat her to the punch. In a flash, the fish tore through the grass, knife-like teeth glinting in the sunlight as he opened his jaws wide. Unprepared to be accosted in such a manner, the Deerling had no time to defend itself, and the Carvahna was able to tear into the tender flesh. Though she was still miffed at have been outsped, Quinn was determined not to be outshone. Lips curling back in a fearsome grimace, frost began to form along her teeth and numbed her tongue with a familiar chill. With a powerful leap, she ate up the distance to the Deerling and twisted to strike at its flank. [attr="class","julienotes"] [ Quinn used Ice Fang! Am I even needed here? The two made quick work of the Deerling and it went down as soon as it showed up. Alone, Garm could have dealt with it, but lacked enough damage to bring it down as quickly as they did just now. He supposed that was one advantage of going in the dungeons with a group, though he always tried to convince himself that he worked better alone. He hasn't failed any task yet since he joined the Guild, but that might just be him being too careful around dungeons during his earlier days of being an inept Hunter. Nowadays, Garm just did whatever and is basically relying on luck and sheer perseverance to power through a dungeon instead of playing it smart. "Good job." The words sounded more like an automatic response rather than an encouraging one. "Welp, there's no reason to waste time 'round here, I suppose." Taking up the lead, Garm waded deeper through the fields and further into the dungeon. He was supposed to just accompany Quinn and make sure her first run goes well without interfering much, though at this point, the Electrike simply chose to ignore the specifics. It'd make things faster this way anyways. 204 words some notes [/b][/div] [/font]

If anything, the resistance increased her competitiveness and encouraged her to dig her canines in deeper until, finally, the Deerling slumped to the ground. Tense muscles relaxing, Quinn released the Deerling from her grasp and took a minute to wipe her mouth clean of any evidence of the battle. For a moment, pride simmered in her chest, pulsing to the beat of her heart as it echoed in her ears. Then, Garm spoke up, as disinterested as ever, and Quinn's spirits dropped immediately. Reminded of her company, she molded her face into a neutral expression, one her parents instructed her was appropriate when interacting with others. Her eyes were masked with a gleam of sobriety, and no part of her outward appearance betrayed any of her emotions, good or bad. "I agree," she nodded at Garm's suggestion, despite his tone of voice rubbing her the wrong way. "It would be in our best interests to track down the criminal as soon as possible."Having tossed in her two cents, Quinn moved to lead the group further into the dungeon, but the Electrike unexpectedly beat her to it. For a moment, Quinn was thrown by the turn of events, though she recovered quickly. Against her better judgement, she lashed her tail in annoyance as she leveled a dark glare at Garm's back. Sure, he was more qualified than she was, but this was her mission - not his, not the Carvahna's, hers. She had never asked for help, and even though the Guild had pushed it upon her, the Shinx had no intention of taking a backseat in this endeavor. Collecting herself and riding the wave of irritation that washed over her, Quinn raced forward to catch up to Garm so that she walked next to him, matching his pace step for step. Even though it wouldn't have been acceptable to usurp his leadership now that he's taking charge, Quinn decided to settle for the second best course of action. nH4xc5qU1-100(I wasn't sure if Malachy would be able to post soon, so I decided to go ahead with the thread and they can jump back in next round!) "Oh. Free stuff."It was only when he stopped to pick up the litter and drop it in a pack strapped on his back did he notice the Shinx beside him instead of behind. The display of initiative and independence was to be commended, to which Garm would only give a faint smile without letting a word out. He'd be lying if he said that he was the same when he was new. Can't really open his mouth about it either after he got too ahead of himself and had forgotten his role in this trip. He would then move forward, albeit in a different pace. Still brisk as ever, as if indicating the urgency of apprehending the criminal, though not so much as to go ahead of the Shinx this time. Whether she decided to take the lead this time or continue walking beside him was her choice this time. 151 words some notes

[googlefont="Lato:400i,400,900;"] [attr="class","juliecontainer"] [attr="class","juliebar"] [attr="class","julieimage"] [attr="class","julietags"] [ 𝓈𝒾𝓁𝓋𝒶𝓁𝒾 ] [attr="class","juliewords"] [ 494 ] [attr="class","julietext"]Despite Garm’s complete nonchalance regarding the unexpected discovery they had stumbled upon, Quinn chose to approach their findings with a little more caution than her partners. Leaning in, she sniffed at the seeds; one’s satisfied that there was no lingering scent of a previous owner – perhaps one with a less than scrupulous reason to have left them there – she nudged it gently with a paw, waiting at the ready in case this was an elaborate setup. “Dungeons may be dangerous,” her mother had advised her. “But the greatest threats only occur when you forget to use your head. As long as you’re thinking clearly, you’ll be fine.”Her ears swiveled back and forth, listening for even the slightest hint of another Pokemon in the vicinity, and Quinn only scooped up one of the three totter seeds after she had confirmed with all her senses that the area was clear. Though it took some effort to stash the seed away without any thumbs, Quinn managed to maneuver it into the depths of the pack that hung around her neck, placing it with the apple and the oran berry she had brought with her. While she hoped that there would be no need for her to use any of her items, Quinn was aware that there would always be a chance for things to go awry. If somehow this criminal turned out to be more dangerous than she had thought, then it would be best for her to utilize all her available resources. Double checking that her knapsack was fastened securely, Quinn turned to move with Garm as the Electrike pressed on. However, there was something different about his movements; though he was still moving swiftly, he no longer exuded the oppressive leadership he had moments ago. Instead, there almost seemed to be a sense of acknowledgement. No doubt, he had recognized Quinn’s silent rebellion, though his reaction was certainly bizarre. Instead of reprimanding her for toeing the line, he seemed to respect her challenge. One way or another, Quinn had managed to establish some rapport with him, and, though her whiskers twitched in surprise, she decided not to look a gift horse in the mouth. Taking the chance he offered her, Quinn took a few long strides so that she still walked to Garm’s left, but was now slightly in front of him so that her haunches lined up with his shoulders. Though Quinn relished the opportunity she had been afforded, she was even more aware of the pressures that came with leadership. There was no room for mistakes, not when she was under the watch of a higher-ranking hunter. While Garm didn’t seem like the type to report her for the slightest error, Quinn had no doubts that word would spread regardless, and it would take much longer to recover the trust of the guild leaders.
