Darius was out shopping.
It was pretty unusual that he went out shopping. He was a 'mon of simple means, not really feeling a need for the luxuries of better off pokemon. Not that he particularly judged anyone for their love of fancy things and stuff. It worked out pretty well in his favor when he robbed one pokemon of their things and then sold it to another. He also privately thought that Felix looked pretty great in gold and diamonds, which was pretty funny because he'd never had a love of them before meeting the buneary. His father had been right about love messing with your head. That was about the only thing the old lizard had been right about.
It was because of his love for giving Felix the best of the best that he was currently standing in the middle of the section of the market that folks like him didn't go to. There was a portly patrat fellow that he was eyeing, an older gentleman who really had no excuse to not have evolved yet. He knew enough about his trade to know that there was a healthy amount of profiling to be done based on the species of a mark - patrats and sentrets were particularly observant but unfortunately suspicious and clannish. If you act friendly enough towards them, you could switch their suspicion to someone else.
More importantly, the vendor was selling jewelry. Not the cheap stuff, either. He couldn't stop the flash of greed that ran through him as he spotted a particular beauty - a black choker with a blue sapphire. He knew better than to try and fence things stolen from Elysia... but he thought that it would look pretty good on Felix, even if the buneary wouldn't be able to wear it in polite company. The gible made his way to the stall, humming and making polite noises as he looked over the jewels. He kept himself well groomed enough to not arouse suspicion, but he saw that not everyone was the same.
There was a scrappy meowth kid standing near the stall, fidgeting and coughing into her paw on occasion. Poor brat was probably just trying to get up the nerve to ask the vendor something, but the gible saw an opportunity. "Hey." He murmured to the patrat, catching his eye over the shimmering jewels of the stand. "That kid look shifty to you?" He glanced towards the little meowth, observant eyes picking out little details about her. He'd have to thank her for being a distraction, somehow. Maybe he'd buy her a sandwich next time he saw her. It wasn't like she'd realize it was him that got her in trouble. "She's been by a few times."
The patrat mumbled something under his breath and rushed off to confront the little cat. Darius whistled happily and, with a slight of hand enhanced by his days as a performer, he slipped the choker into his bag. It wasn't the nicest thing there. The vendor probably wouldn't even notice it was missing until he took stock at the end of the day.
